Moran Photography and Graphic Design was years in the making. Although we've only been "in business" for a few years, we've actually been doing this for quite some time! 
Because of Mark's experience as a professional photographer, he is forever being asked by friends and acquaintances to "take a few photos" - whether it's a family reunion, headshots for a press release, or pictures of a family pet! 
In Melissa's case, friends or family would ask her to help write a resume, retouch an old photo on the computer, or make a special occasion card with a personalized message inside. 

Later they'd ask us, "What do I owe you?"  And we never knew what to say. 

After so many years of doing these favors, (and after tons of gift cards, baskets of baked goods, and cases of beer in thanks) we realized that we probably should make this official.  So in the spring of 2001, we registered our business with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and continued doing what we were doing, this time with letterhead, invoices, and a quarterly sales tax payment to the state!

Personally speaking, we have been married for four and a half years and we have one gorgeous and brilliant little girl.  We also have two girls from Mark's first marriage, who are intelligent, beautiful, and graceful young ladies who constantly amaze us with good grades, athletic ability, and artistic talent.

While we're proud of what we've been able to accomplish with our small business, we don't make enough to allow us to quit our day jobs.   So in addition to Moran Photography and Graphic Design, Mark works full-time at the Citizens' Voice Newspaper and Melissa works part-time (at least until our baby starts kindergarten!) at GUARD Insurance Group.

Our hope is that our small business will continue to grow and allow us to do what we love - take pictures, build web sites, and design fun stuff on the computer!  At the same time, we're proud to provide a service to friends, family, and the referrals they send us through word-of-mouth (we really haven't done much advertising).  And maybe, just maybe, we can set a good example for our girls about working hard, doing what you love, and seizing every opportunity available in the greatest nation on Earth!
